Founding Ideas

The Daily Mail is a conservative, British daily middle-market tabloid  newspaper owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust.
First published in 1896 by Lord Northcliffe, it is the United Kingdom's second biggest-selling daily newspaper after The Sun. Its sister paper The Mail on Sunday was launched in 1982. Scottish and Irish editions of the daily paper were launched in 1947 and 2006 respectively. The Daily Mail was Britain's first daily newspaper aimed at the newly literate "lower-middle class market resulting from mass education, combining a low retail price with plenty of competitions, prizes and promotional gimmicks",and the first British paper to sell a million copies a day.
It was, from the outset, a newspaper for women, being the first to provide features especially for them, and is the only British newspaper whose readership is more than 50 percent female, at 53 percent. The Daily Mail has had substantial and controversial political positions over its history, including accusations of warmongering before World War I. Lord Rothermere and Lord Beaverbrook were instrumental in launching the United Empire Party in 1929 which sought a British Empire trading bloc. Rothermere was sympathetic to the fascist movement in the UK until 1934, when the British Union of Fascists held a rally where violence occurred.

Current news values- how has the daily mail changed?

The news values havent really changed over the years as they are still hold the same news values.

Negativity- This newspaper still uses very negative storys their normal stories are offten about immagration and child abduction.

Closeness to home- This is because the stories that are published are allways in britain.

Currency-The  stories in this newspaper are always current and have allways been but sometimes they like to drag a story on for ages.

Moral panic-this newspaper likes to cause moral panic by telling people about things that give you cancer and about child abduction they like to over exagerate to make people panic.

Ownership-

Daily Mail and General Trust plc is a British media conglomerate, one of the largest in Europe. In the UK, it has interests in national and regional newspapers television and radio. The company has extensive activities based outside the UK.

Associated Newspapers is a national newspaper publisher in the UK. It is a subsidiary of the Daily Mail and General Trust.  Typical story

The typical story of the daily mail is about something negative such as
3,000 doctors putting patients on 'death lists' that single them out to be allowed to die.
this is a typical story for the daily mail this may cause moral panic and fits in with their newsvalues too.
